If you’re at all familiar with the Jeep® brand of vehicles, you’ll know that they’re synonymous with durability, off-road prowess, and adventure. Although the automaker has added a suite of innovative tech and safety features, at its heart, the Grand Cherokee is an off-road beast.
The first thing that adventurers will likely be wondering about the new 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee is what lies underneath the hood. The new Grand Cherokee actually comes with your choice of a couple of different engines, with the first being a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 285 horsepower. The top trims offer a couple of additional models, with the first one being a 5.7-liter V8 engine that cranks out 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. If you’d like something a bit different, you can upgrade to the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine, good for 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The top-of-the-line SRT comes with a massive 6.4-liter V8 engine that produces 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.
In addition to these powerful engines, the 2016 Grand Cherokee offers three different four-wheel-drive systems: the single-speed light-duty Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II with a two-speed transfer case, and Quadra-Trac II with a rear electronics limited-slip differential. The top-of-the-line SRT comes with a heavy-duty all-wheel-drive system. Besides the powertrains, this new Jeep comes standard with a bevy of other off-road-focused features. If you choose the Off-Road Adventure group, you get skid plates, tow hooks, a two-speed transfer case, Selec-Terrain selectable drive modes, hill descent control, a full-size spare tire, and all-terrain tires.
