If you’re looking to buy a new pickup truck in Bemidji, one of your primary concerns is likely the powertrain. While pickups like the 2016 RAM 1500 have received massive interior comfort upgrades in the past few years, the meat and potatoes of the pickup truck is the powertrain. Luckily, if you’re a blue collar worker or just somebody looking for a big, powerful truck, the 2016 RAM 1500 has a variety of powerful and versatile powertrain options.
The first choice that you have when you’re checking out this new RAM truck at our Bemidji RAM dealership is which trim you want to purchase. The 2016 RAM 1500 comes in nine different trim levels, ranging from the workhorse Tradesman up to the luxurious SLT. The base engine that comes on the lower trims is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that is good for 305 horsepower and 269 pound-per-foot of torque, which are both increases since last year’s model. With this engine, you can tow up to 7,610 pounds and carry up to 1,880.
Next up on the gasoline side of things is a massive 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that cranks out 395 horsepower and 410 pound-per-foot of torque. The Fuel Saver Technology in this engine deactivates half of the cylinders during cruising and under light loads to increase fuel economy. Finally, if you’re looking for something a little bit different, we’d recommend checking out the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. This is the only diesel engine available on a light duty pickup truck, and it is equipped with a diesel oxidation catalyst, allow it to achieve 29 miles per gallon on the highway.
