About a year ago, RAM unveiled a new engine that was met with much skepticism but ended up winning multiple awards and garnering praise from both automotive writers and everyday Bemidji drivers. This EcoDiesel engine was revolutionary in that it combined clean diesel technology with the toughness and durability for which RAM trucks are known. Now that the 2015 RAM 1500 is available at Bemidji Chrysler Center, we have received word that an even more efficient EcoDiesel engine is about to hit the market.

Currently, the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel is the most fuel efficient full-size pickup on the market, but RAM isn’t satisfied with simply being the best. Instead, the new High Fuel Efficiency (HFE) version of the EcoDiesel will increase the gas mileage by about five percent. In total, the HFE EcoDiesel engine will return 21 miles per gallon in the city and 29 on the highway, which is an improvement of one mile per gallon over the standard rear-wheel-drive EcoDiesel. To improve fuel economy, the HFE model will be rear-wheel-drive only, while the standard model has the option of having four-wheel-drive.

When they buy this new RAM 1500, Bemidji residents will also receive a truck that makes no sacrifices in its toughness to achieve its excellent fuel efficiency. The HFE will come in a single body configuration: a four-door crew cab with a six-foot-four-inch bed that it shares with the Tradesman trim of the RAM 1500. The V6 turbocharged EcoDiesel HFE will crank out the same 240 horsepower and 420 pound-per-foot of torque as the standard EcoDiesel.
