If you’ve gotten the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger or Dodge Challenger powered by the venerable Hellcat engine, you’ll surely be excited about the latest news out of Jeep headquarters. For those unfamiliar with the Hellcat, prepare to get acquainted, because this beastly engine is about to expand its reach outside of those two Dodge muscle cars. The upcoming 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee will have one version that includes the massive Hellcat engine under its hood.
Here at Bemidji Chrysler Center, this news couldn’t be any more thrilling. While the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee has many different powerful engines available, the Hellcat is in another category completely. The new Jeep SUV equipped with the Hellcat was just debuted at the automaker’s annual dealership meeting in Las Vegas last week. Looking at the details of the engine, the Hellcat is a monstrous 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that cranks out an incredible 707 horsepower.
According to a spokesperson from Jeep, the Hellcat will be available on the top-of-the-line SRT Trackhawk trim of the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The all-wheel-drive vehicle will be able to spring from zero to 60 in an amazing 3.5 seconds, which will eclipse any SUV in the same class as the Grand Cherokee. The addition of this Hellcat engine highlights the overall changes to the Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the vehicle originally began its life as an off-road-centered SUV, in recent years it has become more suited for driving in town here in Bemidji. Of course, it still has rugged characteristics, such as the aforementioned all-wheel-drive and Selec-Terrain traction management system that make it perfect for camping trips in the wilds of Minnesota.
